GAME SUMMARYFalcons Grounded at John Champe, 39-0 Aldie, VA October 13, 2017 A dejected 1-6 Briar Woods Falcon squad marched into the visiting locker room after absorbing a 39-0 pasting by the 5-2 John Champe Knights with not much to say. Their performance on the field could only be considered a regression of sorts. Though losing five of their first six games of the 2017 campaign, there were bright spots to focus on. Not this game. Down only 12-0 at the half, the last two quarters were a succession of seven fumbles on offense, three of which turned into turnovers and a defense that was not able to stop the Knights who finished the game with 444 yards of total offense and 23 first downs. After a scoreless first quarter the Knights struck first when Carl Garmon rushed 15 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter. Six minutes later quarterback Cameron Parson connected with Trevor Cosenke on a 14 yard scoring pass. The Knights failed to convert two-point attempts and the half time ended with the Knights leading 12-0. The Knights received the second half kickoff and drove 80 yards for the touchdown on a two-yard dive by Garmon who gained a total of 206 rushing yards on 29 carries. Again, the two-point conversion went awry. Garmon scored his third touchdown of the evening later in the quarter on a 21 yard run. This time kicker Jacob Morrill trotted out on the field and converted the extra point for the first of his three successful kicks. The fourth quarter turned into a celebration for the home team as Parson threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Alex Thoden and a 28-yard pass to Brandon Caffrey. Running back Ryan Walther accounted for most of the Falcon yardage with 76 yards on 15 carries. Ike Dove caught four passes for 58 yards. Linebackers Camden Gillie and Joseph Groves have been dependable all season, finishing the game with eight tackles each. There were no great words of wisdom from head coach Mike Groves in the post-game locker room. All season long he has reminded the players that he respects each and every one of them despite the disappointing record. He promised that the coaches would be back next week with a 100% effort in preparing for Potomac Falls next Friday night at home. He invited the players to communicate with each other over the weekend, to prepare for a week of practice dedicated to winning their next football game.
