Stone Bridge Remains Undefeated with 47-7 Victory at Briar Woods Bramblewood, VA October 6, 2017 The Stone Bridge Bulldogs (6-0) came into the Falcons’ Nest undefeated with the #1 ranking among VHSL division 5 teams. Offense, defense and special teams – the Bulldogs were productive and efficient as they dispatched the home team Briar Woods Falcons 47-7. They would score seven touchdowns before the Falcons crossed the goal line early in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Mason Tatum connected with wide receiver Daniel Thompson on a 32-yard touchdown pass with 7:56 remaining in the first quarter. Two minutes later, running back Nick Mell raced 48 yards for their second touchdown. When Tatum’s 17 yard pass found Tyrese Johnson in the end zone, giving the Bulldogs a 20-0 lead with three minutes remaining in the first period, the ultimate outcome of the game was pretty clear. This is not say that the Falcons did not mount a stiff resistance. They managed to get 12 first downs in the game while racking up 219 yards of total offense, to the Bulldogs’ 19 first downs and 405 total yards. Falcon running back Ryan Walther was the game’s leading rusher with 119 yards on 25 carries. His Bulldog counterpart Nick Mall gained 117 yards on just 11 carries. Tatum was involved in a total of five touchdowns in the game. His 21 yard completion to Thompson midway through the third quarter was followed by a 16 yard running touchdown and another 15 scoring strike to Thompson. Running back Kyle Tokarchic accounted for the final Bulldog touchdown late in the third quarter on a seven yard dash. Falcon quarterback Kraig Broeker’s 16 yard run accounted for the Falcons lone touchdown. He also completed five of his 10 passing attempts for 45 yards. Wide receiver Ike Dove gathered in four passes on the evening. Linebacker Joseph Groves was the Falcon’s most effective performer of the evening, registering nine tackles. For the Bulldog defense Joey Namath and Cole Gordon led their team with six and five tackles respectively. The Falcons look to get back in the win column next Friday evening when they travel to Aldie, VA to take on 4-2 John Champe High School.
