The Briar Woods varsity softball team picked up its fourth win of the year with a 12-5 victory over host Heritage Monday night in Leesburg.
The Falcons (4-12) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and built a 9-1 advantage after three innings en route to the win.
Sophomore Nicole Karagiorgis led off the game with a walk and scored on a one-out double by senior Caroline Bird. Junior Caitlin Nee followed with a walk, and both Bird and Nee later came home on a single by junior Madden Bishop. Freshman Abby Kleinschmidt hit a two-out single to drive in Bishop to cap the rally.
After Heritage scored in its half of the second, the Falcon tacked on five more runs in the third behind two hits, four walks and two errors.
Freshman Casey Embrey laced a two-run single in the fourth before the Pride countered with two runs of their own in the home half of the frame to make it an 11-3 contest.
In the sixth, freshman Drew Hoehner doubled and scored on a passed ball to account for the Falcons' final run. Heritage plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to round out the scoring.
Eight different Falcons collected a hit, led by Embrey's two singles and three RBI. Bird and Bishop drove in two runs each.
Karagiorgis tossed a complete game, allowing just one earned run while striking out seven and walking three.
The Falcons are back in action Tuesday when they visit John Champe at 6 pm.
