Briar Woods Names Daniel Bruton Head Varsity Football Coach

Briar Woods has named Daniel Bruton as its head varsity Football coach. Bruton has served as the Forest Park High School Varsity Head football coach the last 4 seasons. He lead that program to 2 of the 3 school’s playoff berths and 2 of the 3 winning seasons in the programs history.

Bruton owns over a decade of football coaching experience at the high school level. He began his coaching career as a varsity assistant coach at his alma mater West Montgomery High school in Troy, N.C. He spent 4 years there coaching QBs, RBs, and calling offensive plays for both varsity and JV games.  He was also the varsity head baseball coach for 4 seasons and an assistant basketball coach for 2 seasons.  West Montgomery was known for their success in athletics and Bruton was a part of 4 football teams that made the playoffs (2007 State Runner Up, 2008 2nd round, 2009 State Semi Finals, 2010 3rd round).  Bruton also led the baseball team to 4 straight playoff appearances as the head baseball coach.

After leaving North Carolina, Bruton and his Wife (Caly Cassady Bruton) moved to Woodbridge, VA.  Bruton took a PE job at Beville Middle School while he Coached Football at Hylton High School in 2011.  The Hylton Football team went 10-0 that year.  In the spring Bruton was an assistant coach for the Patriot High School baseball team where he spent 3 seasons in that role.  After 1 season at Hylton, Bruton began coaching at Patriot high School as their WR’s coach in the fall of 2012 where he spent 2 seasons with the Pioneers before being named the Head Coach at Forest Park.

Athletic Director Jerry Carter stated: “Briar Woods is excited to have Coach Bruton coming on board as our head football coach.  He has experience, enthusiasm, and is a great communicator and leader.  He is a great fit to continue the football traditions set forth by Head Coaches Charlie Pierce and Mike Groves.”

Coach Bruton states, “I would like to thank Briar Woods athletic director, Jerry Carter, and Principal, Chris O’Rourke for allowing me the privilege to serve as the next head coach of the Falcon football program.  I am extremely honored to have been chosen to lead this program.  In the short time since the school has been founded it has built an amazing tradition of excellence on and off the field. This has me excited to build off of that tradition and my family and I are ready to start this journey as a part of the Briar Woods Falcon family.”

Bruton earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in Physical Education from Appalachian State University in 2007 and currently teaches in the PE department at Forest Park. Bruton and his wife Caly have 3 children; Bella (7), Kai (5), and Parker (2).
